By using our website, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the website.
1. Who We Are
SCI Lighting is an online lighting store serving customers in the United States. The store is operated by AETERNUM ECOM LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company, and runs on the Shopify platform. For the purposes of this policy, AETERNUM ECOM LLC is the business responsible for your personal information. Our contact details are at the end of this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information, depending on how you use our website:
- Contact and identity details: your name, email address, phone number, billing address and shipping address.
- Order information: the products you view, add to your cart, buy, return or exchange, order totals, and your order history with us.
- Payment information: payment is processed by our payment providers (for example Shopify Payments). We do not see or store your full card number. We receive only limited details such as the card brand, the last four digits, and the payment status.
- Communications: messages, photos or videos you send us when you contact customer support, make a claim or request a return.
- Device and usage information: your IP address, approximate location based on your IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, referring website, pages viewed, links clicked, and the date and time of your visit.
- Marketing preferences: whether you subscribed to or unsubscribed from our emails.
We collect this information directly from you, automatically through cookies and similar technologies when you browse our website, and from our service providers (for example our payment, shipping and analytics providers).
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as health data, precise geolocation, government identification numbers or biometric data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
- Process and deliver your orders, including payments, shipping, tracking, returns, refunds and exchanges.
- Communicate with you about your order and provide customer support.
- Send you marketing emails about our products and offers, but only with your permission. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Understand how visitors use our website so we can fix problems, improve our pages and make shopping easier.
- Measure and improve our advertising, and show you ads for our products on other websites.
- Detect, investigate and prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents.
- Comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations, and enforce our terms and policies.
We do not use your personal information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. How We Share Your Information
We share personal information only as needed to run our store. The categories of recipients are:
- Shopify, which hosts our website and checkout and processes order data on our behalf.
- Payment processors, which handle your payment and help us prevent fraudulent transactions.
- Fulfillment and logistics partners. SCI Lighting works with partners who prepare and ship your products directly to you. To do this, they receive your name, shipping address, phone number, email address and order details. Some of these partners are located outside the United States, including in China (see Section 9).
- Shipping carriers, which receive your name, address and phone number to deliver your package and provide tracking.
- Advertising and analytics providers, such as Google (Google Ads and Google Analytics) and similar tools, which receive cookie and device data and information about your activity on our website (see Sections 5 and 6).
- Customer support and email service providers, which help us communicate with you.
- Professional advisers, authorities and other third parties when we are required to do so by law, to respond to valid legal requests, or to protect our rights, customers and website.
- A buyer or successor, if our business is sold, merged or reorganized. In that case, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who must honor this policy.
All of these recipients may use your information only to provide services to us or as the law requires. We do not sell your personal information in exchange for money.
5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We and our providers use cookies, pixels and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Essential: to keep your cart, remember your session and currency, secure checkout and prevent fraud. The website cannot work properly without them.
- Analytics: to count visits and understand how pages are used, including through Shopify analytics and Google Analytics. We may also use session analytics tools, such as Microsoft Clarity, which record how visitors scroll and click so that we can improve our pages. These tools do not record your payment details.
- Advertising: to measure the results of our Google Ads campaigns and show relevant ads to people who visited our website.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, which let you block or delete them. If you block essential cookies, parts of the website, such as the cart and checkout, may not work. You can also use the privacy choices described in Section 6.
Global Privacy Control. When your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for that browser and device. We do not respond to other "Do Not Track" signals, because there is no common standard for them.
6. Advertising and Your Privacy Choices
Some of our advertising and analytics cookies may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, or as a "sale", under certain US state privacy laws. You can opt out at any time on our page "Your Privacy Choices":
You can also opt out by emailing us at support@sci-lighting.com. Opting out does not stop essential cookies or order-related messages. To unsubscribe from marketing emails, click the unsubscribe link in any of our emails.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and other US states with privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- Know and access the personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy in a portable format.
- Delete the personal information we collected from you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and of targeted advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is needed to provide our services.
- Not be discriminated against for using your rights. We will not deny you products, charge you different prices or give you a lower quality of service for exercising them.
How to make a request. Email support@sci-lighting.com or call +1 (307) 448-8808 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern Time (ET)). Please include your name, the email address used for your order and the request you want to make. We will confirm receipt promptly and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we may extend this period once by up to 45 more days and will tell you why.
Verification. To protect your information, we may ask you to confirm details such as your order number and email address before we act on a request.
Authorized agents. You may ask someone to make a request for you. We will need proof that you gave them permission and may need to verify your identity directly with you.
Appeals. If we decline your request, you may appeal our decision by replying to our response. We will answer in writing within the time required by law.
California residents. In the past 12 months, we collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (such as name, email, address, phone number and IP address), commercial information (such as orders and purchase history), internet and network activity (such as browsing behavior on our website), and approximate geolocation. We collected them for the purposes in Section 3 and disclosed them to the recipients in Section 4. We do not sell personal information for money. Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83, you may also ask once a year for information about personal information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing. We do not make such disclosures.
Nevada residents. We do not sell covered information as defined by Nevada law. You may still send a request to support@sci-lighting.com.
8. Visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
Our store is directed at customers in the United States. If you nevertheless use it from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the following applies. AETERNUM ECOM LLC is the controller of your personal information. We process it on these legal bases: to perform our contract with you (orders and delivery), to comply with legal obligations, for our legitimate interests (securing our website, preventing fraud, improving our services and basic analytics), and with your consent (marketing emails and non-essential cookies), which you can withdraw at any time.
You have the right to access, correct, delete and restrict the use of your personal information, to object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To use these rights, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Where Your Information Is Processed
We are based in the United States, and our website provider and many of our service providers process information in the United States. Our fulfillment partners that prepare and ship orders are located in China, so order and delivery details (name, address, phone number, email address and ordered items) are made available to them for the sole purpose of fulfilling your order and handling returns. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as contractual commitments that limit the use of your information. By placing an order, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in these countries, which may have different data protection laws than your own.
10. How Long We Keep Your Information
- Order and payment records: up to 7 years, to meet tax, accounting and legal requirements.
- Customer support messages and return or claim records: up to 3 years.
- Marketing email data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Cookie and analytics data: for the lifetime of each cookie, which is usually between a session and 24 months.
When we no longer need your information, we delete or anonymize it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
11. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. Our website uses encrypted HTTPS connections, and payments are handled by PCI-DSS compliant payment providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong password if you create an account, and do not share it.
12. Children's Privacy
Our website is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16, and we do not sell or share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16. By placing an order, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you have a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Third-Party Websites
Our website may contain links to other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Once you leave our website, this policy no longer applies, so please read the privacy policy of every site you visit.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when our practices or the law change. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date above. If we make material changes, we will give you additional notice where the law requires it. Please review this page regularly.
